MIG Welding - In Depth

Like many others, I learned to MIG weld before learning to TIG. I borrowed a machine from my buddy Pete, and just let it rip. I was on the hunt for that sizzling bacon sound trying to stack mad dimes, yo. Naturally, I learned through trial and error with the guidance of YouTube. I encourage you to do the same. Your welds will suck. Everyone's did when they started. To this day, I am still dealing with correcting my terrible welds of years ago.

These are photos of the welds holding on the lower control arm relocation brackets on the rear of my Camaro. I remember welding those in. The rear was in the car, it was the middle of summer, I had no idea what I was doing laying under my car on the hot driveway pavement in a short sleeve shirt with all the weld splatter raining down and burning me. But I do know those suckers held up to multiple 1.3x 60 foot launches.

This past winter I did grind down the old welds, cleaned up the area and gave it another shot. By no means is it the prettiest, but I gave it one slap and said "that puppy aint going no where" so you know its built to last now.

The point is, get yourself a welder and some scrap metal and get after it. Practice as much as you can before doing work on your car, but even if you mess up on your car its always fixable.
